Analysis of the results of the permanent agricultural survey (EPA) 2004-2005 (specific section)

1 February 2006

The Permanent Agricultural Survey (EPA) is a survey whose primary purpose is to estimate the volume of production annually. The General Directorate of Forecasts and Agricultural Statistics (DGPSA) being the place of expression of the needs in terms of statistics of the agricultural sector, it takes into account other objectives than those responding only to the needs of economic policies.
The strategy adopted for the production of statistics gives priority to productions, areas and yields, without neglecting other aspects.
For this, the EPA includes, between two (02) agricultural censuses a fixed framework (which operates annually), specific components according to a given schedule and a data management system to meet multifaceted needs.
The fixed framework is the framework which makes it possible to forecast cereal harvests during October and to provide during March / April, post-harvest production estimates as well as stocks.
The specific components meet the needs of users for the formulation, implementation and evaluation of agricultural development policies. Priority is given to the following components:

  • Agricultural population, occupation of the agricultural population and sources of monetary income;
  • Popularization and practices of agricultural techniques;
  • Livestock farming of agricultural households;
  • Equipment and inputs for agricultural households;
  • Etc. This analysis concerns data from specific components of the 2004-2005 LFS. The topics covered concern socio-demographic data, production systems and the livestock of agricultural households.
