11 April 2012

The overall objective of the mission is to assess the evolution of the current food and nutritional situation of households throughout the country with a view to planning the various operations.
This specifically involves collecting information with a view to evaluating:

  • household food availability (level of farmers and traders’ stocks, sources of market supply), livestock (water resources, pasture and SPAI) and prospects for the coming months;
  • the accessibility of populations to foodstuffs and animal feed (level and trend of price changes, sources of household income);
  • the nutritional status of populations, particularly that of children under 5;
  • the number of vulnerable households;
  • the adaptation capacities of populations in risk areas (livelihood and survival strategies);
  • the vulnerability of populations in the most affected areas and the need for intervention;
  • movement of livestock (national and cross-border transhumance);
  • the food and health situation of livestock and adaptation strategies of pastoral households;
  • interventions by partners and synergy of action between the various stakeholders;
  • the specific recovery needs and actions possible for pastoral households;
  • impacts of state interventions already carried out or not in areas at risk of food insecurity;
  • food outlook.

A mission report is being finalized and will be available on the site at the appropriate time.
