Statistics on agricultural populations – Permanent agricultural surveys from 1993 to 2003

1 December 2004

The need for statistics on agricultural populations has become increasingly important. It is to meet these needs that data on agricultural populations were extracted from the database of the Permanent Agricultural Surveys from 1993 to 2003. They relate to the number of inactive and active in agriculture and livestock.
These data were calculated according to a household typology established according to the following criteria:

  • population criterion: small size (= 5 people), medium size (6 – 9 people), large size (= 10 people);
  • area criterion: small area (3 ha), medium area (3 – 5 ha), large area (5 ha);
  • modernity criterion: without chemical fertilizers and without modern sowing / plowing equipment (traditional), with chemical fertilizers and without modern sowing / plowing equipment (semi-traditional), without chemical fertilizers and with modern sowing / plowing equipment (semi-modern) ), with chemical fertilizers and with modern (modern) sowing / plowing equipment.

The level of analysis retained is the agroecological region, numbering five (05). To be in harmony with the Rural Development Strategy (SDR) and the division into thirteen (13) administrative regions, only the data for the years 2002 and 2003 have been tabulated according to this level of analysis.
